Safety/Security Sensitive Designation:
This is a safety/security sensitive position for purposes of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.
- Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of his or her own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
- Perform various repairs and improvements as assigned using all types of equipment.
- Operate and maintain equipment.
- Drag and smooth ball fields and apply chalking. Perform other maintenance duties at ball fields as assigned.
- Mow, weed eat, trim, prune, etc.
- Operate loaders, tree trimmers and other construction equipment as needed.
- Assist as assigned in all aspects of the division including grounds maintenance, facilities maintenance, equipment maintenance, athletic field maintenance and urban forestry.
- Remove snow and ice from downtown square area and other parks and trails.
- Prune and remove hazardous trees as needed.
- Perform vegetative management and soil prep/mulching.
- Operate other tools as needed: chainsaw, chipper, stump grinder etc.
- Install holiday lights which typically involves working from aerial lifts and on ladders.
- Secondary Job Duties

- Occasionally required to take a lead role in the performance of duties within a crew.
- Secondary duties as assigned.
- Minimum Qualifications
-
- High school diploma or GED and 12 months of prior experience required. Two years of related experience is preferred.
- Must possess a valid Driver's License and have the ability to obtain a CDL – A license within six (6) months of hire date.
- Must successfully pass criminal background check, including but not limited to convictions, guilty pleas, or no contest pleas to violent offenses, offenses against children, and any offense that would qualify to prevent a person from obtaining an Arkansas teaching certificate (A.C.A. 6-17-410).
- Effectively communicate with others orally and in writing.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of distance.
- Must be able to operate various hand tools, mowers, bush hog, utility vehicles, trailers, tractors, backhoe, hand tools, chalker, irrigation system, scoreboard controllers, blowers, weed-eaters, trimmers, chainsaw, aerial-lift, grinder and chipper.
- While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively. The employee regularly is required to stand, walk and sit. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- While performing the functions of this job the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions and risk of vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
