The Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette seeks a metro editor to work out of our Fort Smith office and supervise and coach the reporters on our award-winning staff. Our presence in the River Valley is growing along with its cities.

As the editor, you will play a pivotal role in our collaborative newsroom environment. Working closely with reporters and other editors, you will be responsible for assigning news, feature, and enterprise stories, photos, and graphics. Your guidance will be instrumental in directing coverage and editing the work of reporters and others in the Fort Smith and Fayetteville newsrooms. You will also oversee digital content production in multiple formats, ensuring our stories reach our diverse audience.

As the editor, you will not be alone in your responsibilities. You will be part of a supportive team dedicated to the paper's outreach and customer service to the public at large. We value your contribution and are committed to providing the resources you need to succeed in your role.

This editor may also be asked to oversee special projects and take on other duties as assigned. 

The position requires a degree in journalism or a related field. Experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. More than three years of newsroom supervision experience, preferably at a daily newspaper, is preferred. Experience producing digital content on a deadline is preferred. Knowledge of proper grammar and Associated Press style is required.

The position is primarily located in Fort Smith, Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., but may be expected to work from the Fayetteville office once a week and may supervise some writers in Fayetteville. Days and hours will vary occasionally. The position reports to Managing Editor Dave Perozek.
